Rab Island 2022

More than 50 divers, including the youngest at just 12 years old, participated in a significant diving initiative in the area of the island of Rab. This impressive initiative originated from the Ivan Rabljanin Elementary School, where students diligently crafted clay balls with beneficial bacteria, also known as effective microorganisms, throughout the school year.

The main goal of the initiative was to contribute to the protection of the underwater environment through the bioremediation of the sea. Through the collaboration of divers and school children, the innovative clay balls became a key tool in breaking down accumulated waste sediment at the bottom of the Rab harbor. As part of the action, students threw as many as 1000 pieces of these environmentally friendly balls, significantly contributing to the cleaning of the underwater environment. In addition to the practical aspect of the action, students also participated in the educational part of the “Think Green” initiative, which aims to raise awareness about the necessity of preserving a clean sea for future generations. A special lecture on ecology and diving, tailored for elementary school students, took place at the Winter Cinema of the city of Rab.

This combination of action and education has a long-term goal of promoting ecological awareness and responsible behavior towards the environment among young people. The initiative of the Ivan Rabljanin Elementary School in Rab not only demonstrates the enthusiasm of the youth for environmental conservation but also emphasizes the importance of community collaboration, divers, and educational institutions in achieving common ecological goals.
